From June of 1950 to July of 2008, the Norfolk & Western No. 917 steam locomotive sat on the same spot rusting away in the Virginia Scrap Iron & Metal Company yard in Roanoke Virginia. On July 8, 2008, the locomotive was removed by crane and loaded on a flatbed trailer to be hauled to Bellville, Ohio for restoration and display.
