Thank you, Randy, for featuring the photo, "Palo Duro Canyon" in your group, "Wisconsin Flowers..." Not many people know that Georgia O'Keefe was head of the art department at then West Texas Normal College in 1916-1918 and she walked to the canyon from the school, in order to study the canyon. It is a very interesting place to visit!!

Palo Duro Canyon (from the Spanish meaning "hard wood") has been named "The Grand Canyon of Texas" both for its size and for its dramatic geological features, including the multicolored layers of rock called,, "Spanish Skirts" and steep mesa walls similar to those in the Grand Canyon.
