This lighthouse is one of the most recognizable and photographed landmarks in Nassau, Bahamas. The lighthouse is also known also as Paradise Island Light or Hog Island Light. Hog Island was renamed to the more appealing Paradise Island in the 1960s as resorts began to be built there.
Nassau Harbor Lighthouse was constructed about 1816/1817 and is the oldest operating lighthouse in the West Indies. Although the lighthouse is only 69 feet (21 m) above sea level, it is one of the first objects sighted when arriving at Nassau by sea.
The lighthouse can easily be viewed when arriving or leaving Nassau by cruise ship or small craft. There are no tours and the only land access would be to hike over to it from Colonial Beach on Paradise Island. But, it can be seen from nearly any point in Nassau that has a view of the harbor.
